چکیده

Osteoarthritis is the leading cause of joint pathology in the older population. Given the limited intrinsic self-repair capacity of cartilage, a great deal of activity is ongoing to establish conditions under which cartilage regeneration might be achieved. In addition, the potential for use of engineered cartilage as a therapeutic implant is also under active investigation. Finally, the ability to assess cartilage status noninvasively through MRI analysis may play an important role in the development of therapeutics. Motivated by these considerations, we have explored cartilage growth and development in an MRI-compatible hollow fiber bioreactor (HFBR) system (Fig. 1).

Municipal Wastewater Treatment Using a Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor

A bioreactor equipped with hollow fiber microfiltration membranes was applied for wastewater treatment. Removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) was investigated. The experimental setup consisted of influent and effluent tanks, and membrane modules using Polyvinyl Di–Fluoride (PVDF) hollow fibers. The operation program included suction and backwash...

Hollow fiber bioreactor: new development for the study of contrast agent transport into hepatocytes by magnetic resonance imaging.

The aim of our study was to develop a magnetic resonance (MR)-compatible in vitro model containing freshly isolated rat hepatocytes to study the transport of hepatobiliary contrast agents (CA) by MR imaging (MRI). We set up a perfusion system including a perfusion circuit, a heating device, an oxygenator, and a hollow fiber bioreactor (HFB). The role of the porosity and surface of the hollow fi...

Efficient treatment of baker’s yeast wastewater using aerobic membrane bioreactor

A membrane bioreactor (MBR) system based on a dead-end immersed hollow fiber membrane and filamentous fungus Aspergillus oryzae were used for treatment of baker’s yeast wastewater. The fungus was adapted to the wastewater in the bioreactor for two weeks before starting the continuous process. Average organic loading rate of 4.2 kg COD/m3.d was entered the bioreactor. MBR system was able to redu...

Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor for COD Biodegradation of Tapioca Wastewater

The present work studied the application of membrane bioreactor (MBR) for tapioca wastewater processing that contained chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranging from 4000-9000 mg/L. A preliminary study was initially conducted in order to evaluate membrane performance with respect to its flux with MLSS concentration ranging from 4,500 to 10,500 mg/L. It was clear that fouling was observed during the ...

Evaluation of hollow fiber bioreactors as an alternative to murine ascites production for small scale monoclonal antibody production.

The objective of this study was to compare monoclonal antibody production in hollow fiber bioreactor systems and murine ascites to determine the feasibility of the bioreactor system as a potential alternative to the use of mice. Three hybridoma cell lines were grown in each of three different hollow fiber bioreactor systems and in groups of 20 mice. Mice were primed with 0.5 ml pristane intrape...
